Raiya Laren

Name: Raiya Laren

Race: Bajoran

Gender: Female

Character Description: Laren is a rather short, and lithe member of the Bajoran species. She has four nose ridges, typical of the Bajorans, and a pale skin tone that has remained so stubbornly, despite spending long periods of time in harsh sunlight. Her hair is a brown blond and she typically keeps it at shoulder length or a little longer and will wear it up on the occasion. Her hazel eyes are fairly uncommon amongst Bajorans, but not enough so to make her stand out in a crowd of them. Her build is slim, short, and attractive, and her cheeks have an almost unnoticeable red tinge to them. She isn't physically strong and two long scars that go up her left leg. The elaborate earring she wears on her right ear has a miniature stylization of the Bajoran Rapier (The symbol of the Raiya family) and is made of Silver and Kibberian fire diamond's.

Character Biography: Laren was born in 2352 in the Musilla Province on Bajor in the midst of the Cardassian Occupation. Her mother Raiya Ashana was a comfort woman for Cardassians, and an informant for the resistance. Larens father was Raiya Torelas,a member of the resistance killed two years after Laren was born in a Cardassian work camp.
Laren's childhood was relatively privileged given the circumstances of the Occupation, and her mothers position with both the Cardassians and Resistance.This didn't quite shield her from all the brutality of the Occupation. When she was eleven she was slashed twice on her right leg by a few drunk Cardassian guards who wanted to hear what it sounded like when a Bajoran child screamed.
When Bajor was lifted from the Occupation in 2369 Laren took the opportunity to apply for Starfleet Academy, as one of the first in a generation of Homeworld Bajoran's to do so. She was ultimate accepted to the Academy in that year, but did have some difficulties in adjusting to life on Earth. Most of her problems adjusting to the Academy were centered around her Religion (Fasting during the Test season was one of the most difficult periods of her life), trusting the majority Cardassian students- an experience which ranged from developing friendships with some Cardassians, to outright contempt for others- and the allergies which led to sneezing fits every spring. Laren's major focus at the Academy were on Starship tactics, an area where she excelled at, unfortunately she wasn't quite as good at the scientific aspects, and to this day still needs most scientific terms broken down into laymans terms.
In 2371 Laren almost left the Academy in her third year to join the Maquis, but was talked out of it by her mother, though she still continues to sympathize with their cause, and argues that the Dominion War justified what they had said all along.
In 2372 She finished her last year at the Academy and graduated in the top quarter of her class. Her first assignment as an Ensign in the fleet wasas a Tactical Officer on the USS Mariana. She served happily on the ship until 2373 when the Dominion War broke out. She continued to serve distinctly throughout the war on the Mariana until 2374 when the Mariana was destroyed in the battle at the Tyra System along with the majority of Starfleet's Seventh Fleet. Laren survived the battle, but her escape pod was picked up a Cardassian Warship. Laren spent the remainder of the war in a POW Camp on Cardassia, something that didn't aid in her opinion of either Cardassians, or the Dominion,and she was often subjected to punishment for unsuccessful escape attempts. After the war ended Laren was returned to Starfleet and promoted following a stint with Starfleet counselors, and vacation time. Following the war Laren decided to switch out of the Tactical department and go into the Strategic Operations department, and was assigned to Starbase 314 as the Assistant Chief Strategic Operations Officer. Laren served on the Station for five years, eventually becoming it's Chief of Strategic Ops, before requesting a transfer to a more "Frontierish" posting.
Her next posting was on the USS Starstalker in the Raeyan Sector where she served as the ships Chief Tactical Officer.
The Starstalker spent three years in the sector, mapping a large nebula along the Romulan Border, and often getting in trouble with the Romulans for "Illegal Border Violations". After the ship finished it's mapping assignment Laren was transferred by Starfleet to the USS Bonefish where she spent her first tour in Command as the ships Executive Officer. the Bonefish was a small Saber Class, but it was one Laren's favorites, as it spent it's time chasing down Orion Pirates, and facing off against rogue Klingons in its Border patrols with the Empire. After serving another three year stint, Laren finally decided to apply for a command of her own, and earned the Perseus.
